An Overview of Osteopathy

Osteopathy is the study of human anatomy and physiology, and how each system of the body interrelates with one another. The therapeutic goal of osteopathy is to restore the movement and function of bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, organs, viscera, cranial sutures, etc. This will improve the mechanisms that keep the body healthy, such as blood and lymphatic circulation, nerve function/innervation, and metabolic exchanges between each system.

To accomplish this, it is important to evaluate and treat the causes of symptoms, pain, and dysfunctions. The therapist’s goal is to free the body of restrictions, blockages, and compressions so the body can perform its natural functions.
